An important aspect of my visit to China was that it reinforced my knowledge of social issues. There is a sharp contrast between the living conditions in Shanghai and the living conditions in the mountains where the Yi people reside. It is difficult to imagine that there are still people living in very poor conditions with absence of the most basic needs such clean and adequate water supply, good roads and efficient healthcare system. I appreciate the opportunity to witness these differences in living conditions because it has changed my perspective of life and I will become more involved in community service to help children in need. Most of the things we take for granted are still lacking not only in the Yi community but also among many other communities around the world.
