When the dreams come true

It’s been already one month since I came to Costa Rica and I really enjoy it so far. Although it feels that I’ve been here for much longer because of all exciting and new things I experienced here, and I really want to tell you about it.

I am very impressed that most of the resorts in Costa Rica, including Borinquen, work towards being sustainable when it comes to environment and its protection. Costa Rica has a special certification (CST – Certification for Sustainable Tourism) where hotels and resorts can be evaluated on a scale of 5 levels according to how sustainable their operations are. On my first week I went to help plant trees outside of the hotel with children from school and I think that it’s truly amazing that the hotel cares about the environment and engages local students to help protect the nature.

After one week in the reception I was assigned to work in the kitchen & restaurant. It was a good experience for me, because at this moment the hotel experiences problems with kitchen management so I got a chance to see what mistakes a real kitchen might have and how these problems can be solved.

I also got a chance to travel a little bit around the country. I went to the beach Bahia Ballena with one of the coworkers and it is located near Marino Ballena National park, where we took a boat tour to see whales in the ocean. We spent three days there and then we went to San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica, and I loved it! It’s an interesting city, I was surprised to see some shops that reminded me of my life in Canada, such as Walmart, McDonalds, BurgerKing, Scotiabank, Teriyaki Experience, Popeyes, and so on. National Museum is a really beautiful place and it’s a must-see in San Jose. There are also a lot of churches in the whole country and you can easily find them around the city.

After a week of vacation I had to get back to work and this time I had to work with tour guides that arrange all the activities that the hotel has to offer (ATV to waterfalls, horseback riding, zip lining, and so on). I’ve always wanted to try horse riding and this dream finally came true here. We went on a tour with a group of people which included horseback riding to the zip lining, where I was also given a chance to try 12 canopy lines, and it was absolutely awesome but scary!
